Calories Burned

Did you know that most exercise machine (treadmill/elliptical) calorie counters are anywhere from 10-30% off? The amount of calories reportedly burned doesn’t account for many of the human physiology factors that add up to a unique you. The machines can’t account for the swing of your arms vs. holding onto the hand rails, stride length, muscle to fat ratio, etc.

The machine counters are great for measuring time and distance. Those data points are reliable markers you can track to measure your progress. You just don’t want to rely on the calorie counter. Below is a chart that can provide a more accurate representation of your calorie burn (click on it to enlarge it and see better).

Don’t forget: 3,500 calories equals one pound. Whether it is consumed or burned.
