Healthy Snack Ideas!

The ideal snack is a healthy mix of carbohydrates and protien. The carbohydrate will act as quick fuel to get you going and the protien will keep your metabolism revved up and tide you over until the next meal. Snacking is a great way to help control weight and mood, so stock up! Just keep your portions in check and your choices healthy. Here are some healthy choices to get you started:

-Low Fat or Light Popcorn (try making your own by pouring a quarter of a cup of seeds in a brown paper lunch sack, and zap in the microwave)
-Almonds, Cashews or Walnuts (a small handful of nuts, 1 ounce or a 1/3 of a cup is a serving)
-Yogurt
-Dried Fruit such as raisins, apricots and pears
-Fresh fruit
-Cheese and whole grain crackers
-Carrots and peanut butter
-Celery, peanut butter and raisins
-Applesauce
-Granola bars (without chocolate and candy)
-One hard boiled egg
-High fiber cereals
-Baked corn chips and salsa
-Canned fruit or fruit cups packed in light juice
-One cup of 100% fruit juice
-One cup of skim or low fat milk
-Instant oatmeal packet
-Hummus with cut up veggies, pretzels or baked pita chips
-Whole wheat pretzels with mustard
-Fruit juice and carbonated water

Make sure to fill your pantry and stock your fridge with healthy options. That way when you are hungry, you are much better equipped to make a healthy choice! Have a healthy, origional snack idea? Share it here, in the comments section!

I LOVE Powerballs with a cup of milk for a snack (or for breakfast)! They are filled with lots of good for you ingredients, minus the chocolate chips.
