Alcohol and Fitness

April is Alcohol Awareness month. Here is a fun fact to help celebrate it:

Three or more alcoholic beverages in one sitting can take up to two weeks of gym time off of your body. In other words, if you just spent the last 14 days working out really hard, three or more alcoholic beverages will negate all of the progress you made. According to John Underwood, from the American Athletic Institute, the way human bodies process alcohol postpones the burning calories from alcohol. Calories from alcohol are metabolized after carbohydrates, protein and fat.

Conversely, research has shown that a small quantity of alcohol does have benefits. However, more than two drinks in a sitting and all of those positive effects go right down the drain. Not working out these days? You may be digging yourself a big hole. Like to consume alcohol, and have a healthy body? No problem! Just make sure that there are two or fewer alcoholic beverages on your tab at the end of the night.

Happy Alcohol Awareness Month!
